Penny Mordaunt is apparently a favourite to replace Johnson as the UK Prime Minister. Unfortunately for her, the right wing media are reporting that her pro trans stance means she's at odds with the rest of the Conservative party, in particular Conservatives For Women.
A CfW spokesman said: ‘She has always been a committed warrior for the trans lobby,’ adding: ‘Her promotion of mantras and failure to see how this may cause enormous harm to women’s rights and children raises questions over her judgment’.
What a bunch of cnuts.

Alas I think Rishi Sunak is the favourite. I didn't know Penny Mordant was pro trans - I'll put that in the plus column against her very Pro Brexit views.

It's flattering and disturbing at the same time that while there is war in Europe, the prospect of famine in Africa and a cost of living crisis at home, the Tory leadership race is hung up on trans rights and defining a woman.

I don’t understand politics very well, but it seems bizarre to me that a political party can do “important stuff” without going to the electorate. Whether it’s the current lot deciding who takes over from the mop-headed one or Tony Blair handing everything over to Gordon Brown, I think it’s always going to feel like a stitch-up. I appreciate that we vote for local members of parliament, not presidential-type party leaders, but the only way for the new leader to claim any sort of mandate would seem to involve another election.
But what do I know?

...the only way for the new leader to claim any sort of mandate would seem to involve another election. I couldn't agree more, Bryony; also, I've always felt that when an MP 'crosses the floor', it should automatically trigger a by-election in that member's constituency, it'd be the democratic thing to do.

What's democracy got to do with it? Its all about lobbyists these days and how many bungs the MPs can take.

Same with our Republican Party here, with a generous dollop of restricting civil rights in general. It's their way of distracting everyone from their complete lack of any actual policy ideas other than "shovel money at the rich". Just blame the jews blacks feminists gays immigrants transgender people. We're the hated minority of the week. Yay.

Yeah hopefully the worst of the idiotic 5 remaining in the leadership mockery here will be out next week (Kemi Badenoch I'm looking at you!). Not that the rest are much better but at least Penny Mordent stuck up for Trans Rights.

I don’t watch TV, but I thought I was reasonably well-informed by other means. I have to ask, though: who the heck is Penny Mordaunt? I never heard of her before last week. Perhaps that says more about me than her, but... what a bizarre state of affairs.
Anyway, to hell with all that: I’m off to the tip. Fun weekend activity for all the fami– oh, wait, no: just me.

Yep! All’s well. Twenty or so ancient tins of paint are now on their way to whatever afterlife awaits them. I’m cleaning out some outbuildings for the mother in law. Stand-out pieces so far include an instrument from an Avro Lancaster (AC voltage up to 400), a never-finished model steam loco and a spider that could star in its own Japanese monster movies.
Fun times! Bx
