I know you all have more than likely dealt with this before, but I guess I'm just venting... I've spent the last almost two weeks basically writing and rewriting the same two paragraphs, I couldn't get them anywhere close to what I had imagined... This evening, about an hour and a half ago I got them right... 2300 words later I'm approaching the size I normally set for my chapters, and as usual I'm not going to be able to get to 'finish' the book with this chapter... I've been feeling that I was going to finish it 'the next chapter'... about 5 chapters ago... My muse is either stingy as hell, or insanely generous with no middle ground... UGH!!!
Sorry, just ignore this... Already ran my kids to bed, so cant vent to them... As if that would do any good, they just look at me like, oh silly daddy anyway..

I always imagine how long something is going to take to write and then it goes longer. The Hendricks Inheritance was due to be three parts and ended up as four. Often when I get stuck writing, the trick I do is leave that section and go on to write later bits. Often that stimulates me as I realise that there are things that I need to write in the earlier piece for that later bit to either make sense or even have the pay off I want.
Glad you're over that stumbling block Rebecca.

Beware of 'Mission Creep' that causes your project to become more and more complicated as you go on. I once wrote a trilogy (not TG) and each piece was longer than the one before. Took me months!
Happens to the best of us... JK Rowling's Harry Potter books became ridiculously long for children to read, as the series went on.
Maybe entice your muse to return by writing vignettes? Or bypass the elements that are giving you grief, and keep on pushing forward. Think General Patton rather than General Haig.

I've noticed that before Bryony with other series I've followed, I don't think that my problem is making the story complicated though. It's just that when I start to write a scene that I think shouldnt take long to do, easily grows to something more that I initially imagined. To me I don't think I'm over complicating, its just to make the scene, or dialog, more full. I desperately wanted my story to flow and be relatable, and to seem 'real' to the reader, and to do that properly (for me at least) its just grown to something I never imagined.
I keep blaming it on being a 'new' author, and just not knowing how much it really takes to flesh a scene out properly. Seeing as I've churned out over 100k words on my first work of fiction, how new could I really be right?

'Mission Creep' is not fun. For the second time since I began writing Alexa, I have had to cut a chapter in half. Just stay with what you want to say.
And like Sam said, If you can't vent here where can you vent?

I believe that Albert Einstein once finished a letter with:
"I'm sorry this letter is so long, but I didn't have time to write a short one."
Makes you think!

I love that saying Bryony, and its the truth...
Well Kris, it probably happened to me on this chapter... I couldn't wrap it up at the scene I wanted... The last scene 'shouldn't' take a whole chapter, so thinking of just making an epilogue and not an honest to God chapter...
Hoping after I proof it a few times I can get it posted tomorrow... Hopefully at least lol.

Read it all the way through in one sitting Becca, and you fill it out really well. A lot of the time authors at our level try to be to pacy with the narrative to make it exciting but what we really do is leave it too thin and lose our audience. You don't do that and so you have created a story that really pulls you in. It's stunning, please don't relegate it to some story sites, publish it so everyone gets a chance to read it, and I mean everyone.

Becca the best thing about your story is I have got go know you, not just as a writer, as a person and a friend as well.
PS Other friendships have also developed with other writers on this site as well
