Last Sunday I had a fantastic day at Asylum (the steampunk festival) in Lincoln. Lots of fun, fantastic creations - including a steampunk R2D2 and of course the music. In the afternoon we were entertained by the amazing Professor Elemental then in the evening Victor and the Bully were much better live than they are in the studio. The highlight of the day for me was Abney Park, an American band I've been in love with for almost fifteen years but never been able to see in person.
Their performance was fantastic, despite Captain Robert appearing to be severely jet lagged and I'd parked my wheelchair front and centre so I had the perfect view. Even better, at the end of the night, I got to chat with Robert and the bands guitarist Skye Warden. One of the best nights of my life, outside of marriage and kids of course.
On Tuesday I start coughing, a lot. A quick Covid test and I'm showing a very faint positive. Less than an hour later my hero has messaged me, he found the pictures I'd posted on FB, being very apologetic, he informs me that it wasn't jet lag he had...it was Covid, and he was worried that he'd passed it on to me. He sounded really guilty when he found out he had. Since then he's been messaging me regularly to check how I am and to tell me that Skye also has Covid now.
A warning there for anyone getting to meet their hero, you just never know what will happen.
By the way, Covid or no, I wouldn't change that evening for anything.
Also, I started feeling better today so, fingers crossed, the worst of it is over. Just a severe shortness of breath and still coughing.

That wasn’t the sort of tale I was expecting from the heading! (Anyone would think you were a gifted writer, to pull off the clever reversal...)
Wuhan cooties!
So sorry to hear you’re under the weather. Let’s hope you bounce back soon, little mouse.

To be fair to Captain Robert, he didn't know he'd caught Covid until much later. My wife and I have seen Abney Park live a couple of times (and Professor Elemental once) and they are as good live as they as on the record (substitute CD, MP3 now I guess).
