The current path of Irma looks like its going to head just south of us... Going to have to decide tomorrow if we stay or flee... Next few days are going to be rough...

Don't mess with it. Get the heck out of there! I went through Wilma in 05 (I was at Disney World of all places) and my family has a home about 60 miles East of you that got hit by 3 hurricanes. Also with my job I saw the destruction of Katrina first hand. These are not things to mess with. Get you and your girls to safety. We will be thinking of you.

I've got to find a gas station that has gas... I'm at 1/4 tank in my truck and the dozen places I checked this evening were all out..

Murphy's law, the gas thing. I'll be thinking of you, sister.
Not a diesel truck that you can fill up with cooking oil, etc.?
it may be time to batten down the hatches: bottled water runs out fast but you can use a teaspoon of thin bleach (not toilet bleach) to make the water held in your hot water cylinder drinkable. Use lemon juice to mask the taste. Charge your appliances and buy batteries for your radio. Carry your medications (and those for pets) with you, etc. Arm yourself. Get some cash out.
You probably know the drill better than we do.

No its a regular gas engine, we're still 4 days away from the first drop falling from the storm and people have gone stupid in panic mode... Gas stations will be getting refills today or tomorrow. As of this morning the storm is going to be significantly weaker by the time it gets here, that and the track of the eye has been changed to east of us... Schools have yet to close, so we will be waiting to see what happens. We've already got stuff packed, so we can have the truck loaded and on the road in half an hour if it comes to that. As far as water, we've been working the heck out of our brita filter. We've filled 5 empty gallon milk jugs, 12 two-liter soda bottles (which are in the freezer so we can keep the fridge cold longer) and 4 gallon pitchers full of water already filtered out.. We'll be okay, even if doesn't get bad enough to leave. Thanks y'all, its really appreciated Becca

Good to hear your news is a little better tonight.
Incidentally, filtering the tap water in advance might not be a great idea as you take out the chemicals that keep it from going off. You can use UV light (sunlight) to kill the bugs in a bottle of water, though.
(I’m a frustrated prepper, basically. Nothing ever happens where I live.)
You stay safe, missy.

Stay safe, Becca. I have friends and clients in South Florida and I know they're all on edge. Here's hoping it inexplicably veers out to sea.

Well work finally decided to 'let' me off work for the storm, since I got the mandatory evac notice this afternoon... Truck is on fumes, and the two routes I have north are gridlocked... I'm hearing horror stories of it taking 6-7 hours to go 90 miles... I75 has construction so its already down to 2 lanes with millions trying to leave...
We've got plenty of water and canned goods, so guess the girls and I will be having ourselves a hurricane party... If it gets too bad there is a shelter 10 minutes away, plus I have several friends who are out of the evac zones... Kind of ticks me off, the evac area ends at my next door neighbors house... So we're 40 feet from 'safety' lol

Becca its good to know there is a shelter not far from you and I gather the Gas Stations did not get deliveries if your still running on fumes
Take care all of you
