I have to admit, I’m always a late adopter. A complete Luddite. I still have a typewriter at home...
Anyway, the thing is, I don’t have an account at BigCloset. I’ve visited a couple of times, but never done anything much there. I note that it’s a much more modern site than Fictionmania... should I be reading and publishing there? Can anybody give me some pointers?
I was even late to the party at Fictionmania: I used to read TG stories nowhere but Crystal’s Storysite. It was only because a couple of the stories there referenced Fictionmania that I became aware of its existence. I’m kind of... ambivalent about the glitzy user interface at BigCloset that’s basically all the ads. But now I’m (ahem) a published author an’ all... should I extend my tendrils to that site, and make more of the world aware of the awesomeness that is Bryony Marsh.
Sarcasm, obviously.

The simple answer is "Yes, you should."

Crystal’s Storysite does not appear to have been updated for years and was one of the first sites I visited then onto Fictionmania.
Big closet has changed over the years and was totally different to the site it is today
Big closet is also fairly easy to set up your own account

I've always been a bit nervy of big closet because of its pay side, though Chrissy is trying to persuade me to put my stuff up there to get a wider readership.

I would agree with Chrissy on that Kat as you have the control of the story as you post it yourself their and then where as FM you have to send a contribute a story form and have to wait for a response from them for you to check and its posted the next day if you are lucky

I don't think they've ever failed to post it the next day on FM. Its just irritating that if you make a mistake its not easy to correct.

I like posting on BC a bit more than on FM. I tend to get a few more comments there than I do at FM, not sure if more are reading it there or not I haven't been curious enough to check how many hits my stories on FM have. While the format on BC sometimes is a bit wonky (for lack of a better word) and more difficult to navigate (not much but noticeable on my IPad), you do have a lot more control when you post. The bad part of that is also, you have more control when you post, I make errors almost every time I post a story there, but you can immediately go back and correct the error, and not wait for a moderator to fix it. I could be mistaken but I often see more stories posted everyday on BC that interest me, where most of the stories I see on FM makes me feel like I need to take a bath just from reading the synopsis... I also like how it had its own messenger so you can talk to the other authors...
That's just my $12.75 ( used to be $.02 but corrected for inflation). Lol Becca

I get an average of 2000 readers on FM, though stories can go anywhere between 500 views and 4000 for me. Eventually when Chrissy nags me enough I might have to put my stories up on BC, but I now have a lot to post there.

I'd say the difference between Fictionmania and Big Closet is quantity vs quality.
Fictionmania is read by far more people then Big Closet, but on BC you get more depth to the feedback, and are more likely to get direct messages.
I met Jess by sending her a direct message on BC, so I can't go against the site but I have been disappointed by how it's been taken over by the fetish people. Although, I think it's now just a 'thing' where any TG site that becomes well known will be taken over by the fetish people, and that will keep happening until we have curated content.
On a purely practical note my theory for Fictionmania's continued dominance of the online TG fiction world is that it is easy to search by theme. Where as Big Closet and Crystal's site seem more formatted for searching by author or story name.

I've never posted on Big Closet, I was wondering if it would be worth putting Demon on there to see how it goes. It got just over 9000 reads on FM but only four reviews. One of which was Chrissy and another wondering why I get so few reviews.

I never get many reviews on FM Anna. If you don't write sissy stories then no one bothers to leave comments in my experience (with the exception of out little cabal here).

I've lost count of the number of times I've said just that, Kat. If you want thousands of reads and loads of reviews, just add to the already huge pile of sissy drivel. Otherwise, settle for the knowledge that those who do read your works are doing so because they are actual stories, and not mindless stroke material.

BC is definitely more read and I'm needy enough to check how many reads, kudos and comments I've received. Having said that, I used to think that FM had higher quality stories and more intelligent comments. I will however join the choir and say that both lately seemed to have devolved into fetish and cruelty stories.
I will continue to post on both and works recommend you doing the same. Just realize, as others have said, that fetish stories will get more clicks. Ah, the marketplace...

I posted on both, but much prefer BC. I have parts of my story that I will only post on BC. I find that my story isn't as well received on FM due to the fetish factor, but want to put it in front of the most eyes. And the messaging feature On BC is great. I wouldn't be here if not for that. It is how I got started, through sending a message to Debbie, who then encouraged me to write my story. And its how I met Chrissy. As much as I tease her, it was great meeting her.

Oooh is that a hint of sisterly love I see.
Well I left my email address once on a reply to a comment in FM and Chrissy pounced on me to, offering me as many frogs as I wanted. So it can be done on FM too.
